My name is Alex Collins.

Until the Summer 2013 I was fit and healthy and wouldn’t have known a GP or a pharmacy if one had hit me in the face. I enjoyed long distance running, climbing, skiing – both up and down mountains – surfing and sailing.

Now I am fit, have type 1 diabetes, and am becoming extremely familiar with Guys Hospital, my local GP and the Pharmacy at the end of my road. I hope to continue enjoying long distance running, climbing, skiing – both up and down mountains – surfing and sailing.

This blog is partly my own personal diary. It is also written for friends, family and others to help them learn about type 1 diabetes. I also hope that it helps and inspires other active people who have type 1 diabetes. Only time will tell if I am successful at continuing to enjoy all the activities that I’m passionate about. I am certainly doing all that I can to allow me to!

We hiked for an entire day to get to this remote, steep ski descent. I want to carry on doing this kind of thing for the rest of my life!

  1. Go Alex! Given the family background and your spirit we know you will overcome this hurdle.
